American Bulldogs Puppies - Health Issues

American Bulldogs are generally healthy. The most common and serious health problem that can occur in the breed is Hip Dysplasia. OFA or Penn Hip should test purebred puppies and their parents for the disease. Such skin disorders as ichtyosis or mange can be found in American Bulldogs.

American Bulldogs Puppies - Aggressiveness

American Bulldogs are dominant and energetic dogs. They gained the notoriety of aggressive dogs due to some cases of attacks on humans and animals. However, these dogs are very loving and protective toward their family. Basically, American Bulldogs display aggressive behavior only to strangers when they feel danger around. American Bulldogs have a very strong protective instinct, which is the trait that can get them into trouble.

American Bulldogs can be taught to take certain things as danger. Proper training is able to keep them from overreacting. With American Bulldogs, a great deal of socialization is needed. The earlier the socialization is started, the greater are the chances that your American Bulldog will have no shyness or fear aggression problems.

Remember that American Bulldogs were originally bred to catch and bring down bulls. Therefore, care should be taken when American Bulldogs are around other animals.
