Miniature Bulldog

The Miniature Bulldog is a smaller variety of the English Bulldog developed in the 1980s. Miniature Bulldogs were created to improve general health and temperament of the full-sized breed and make it suited for an apartment lifestyle. Full-sized Bulldogs are susceptible to a variety of disorders because of their massive body and exaggerated traits. Thus, they have breathing difficulties, skin problems, hip and elbow dysplasia, and are prone to getting overweight. Most full-sized Bulldogs snore and drool; some of them are not clean eaters.

The Miniature Bulldog preserves the most attractive features of its predecessor: funny looks, intelligence, dignity, and devotion to the owner. What makes them different is their health, longevity and very easy-going nature. These small creatures are easy to keep even in a small apartment and easy to handle for children and elderly people. They are agile and energetic, but short daily walks will be enough for them.

The Miniature Bulldog is rather strong and courageous for its size. These small creatures are ready to attack the intruder and defend the owner. They make excellent watch dogs and funny family companions. The breed standard for Miniature Bulldogs is close to the standard for the full-sized English Bulldog, but it lacks some exaggerated traits. The scull of the Miniature Bulldog is not that large, but the face is very short, broad and turned upward. The nose in all Bulldogs is set deeply between the eyes; it’s very broad and with wide nostrils. The eyes are set low down in the scull and very wide apart. Ears are small and rose-shaped. The jaws in Miniature Bulldogs are broad and undershot, but not as massive as those in classic English Bulldogs.

The coat of the Miniature Bulldog is short, straight and lying close to the body. The coat structure is softer compared to the standard Bulldogs. Many coat colors and patterns occur in this breed. The head and face of the Miniature Bulldog are covered with wrinkles, but not with loose pendulous folds common in the English Bulldog. Miniature Bulldogs are low-maintenance pets. They don’t need daily brushing and muzzle cleaning. They are very clean eaters and don’t drool. Miniature Bulldog puppies are very fragile because of their small size, but they are very hardy and healthy.
